A PLEA FOR HOPE, HELP, AND HEALING
A WONDERFUL CHARGE
At the Reagan Presidential Library in California, there is a copy of the Bible which belonged to President Reagan’s mother. The president used this Bible when he took the oath of office at his first inauguration. The Bible is opened to II Chronicless 7:14, the same passage to which it was opened when he took the oath on Jan. 20, 1981. The verse is underlined, and then handwritten in the margin are these words:
A most wonderful charge for the healing of the nations.
A CALL TO RETURN
As Americans, we must understand well that God has been “our help in ages past” and is “our hope for years to come. Psalms 33:12 says it clearly: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord”. Ronald Reagan would later say, “If we ever forget that we are a nation under God, we will be a nation gone under”. That is what The 7:14 Initiative is all about. It is a call for God’s people to return to humility, prayer, worship, and repentance. Yes, this verse was God’s Word to Solomon and the Jews, but in principle it is a word from God to all of His people. It is in response to these initiatives, that God will “hear from heaven, forgive sin, and heal the land.”
A PERSONAL RESOLUTION
Will you consider joining with others of God’s people in a daily commitment to pray for the spiritual awakening that American needs. Consider setting an alarm on your clock or on your phone for 7:14 (either A.M. or P.M.). Let this be your reminder to pause for a moment to call out to God in behalf of our nation.
